Is Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar Really That Good for You?

The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) has debunked the theory that following an alkaline diet can improve your health and reduce your risk for cancer, stating, “What you eat can have a profound affect on your cancer risk, but the acidity or alkalinity of foods is not important. Instead, focus on making dietary choices that can truly affect your risk.” The AICR has launched a campaign to hep bust common myths and present science-based facts about cancer prevention. Just Because It’s Good for You Doesn’t Mean It’s Right for You

I am pitched on a range of products and protocols that are intended to be good for you. They claim to improve your health and well-being. I keep an open mind, but I always peer into the science behind the statements. I question, “How does this work for women of all ages and backgrounds and when does it not appropriate for someone?” I’ve been schooled in the “not one diet fits all” theory of healthy eating. There are general guidelines to follow: eat more plants, leaner protein, and better fats; consume less sugar and simple carbohydrates; avoid processed foods; drink

Want to Change Your Life? Change Your Habits

Want to Change Your Life? Change Your Habits

The main reason diets don’t work is people don’t stick to them. It’s a commitment. Your relationship to food is more than about what you eat. It’s emotional. Many of us eat and drink to nurture our spirit as much as to nourish our bodies. Maybe it’s time to change your behavior and not just your diet. That’s one of the many messages from Dr. Deena Solomon, who tackles weight loss from a cognitive behavioral perspective- aka “retrain the brain.” www.drdeenasolomon.com Dr. Solomon says, “While others view food as an addiction, and overeating as a disease that must be cured, I see eating

It’s Time To Clean Up the Dirty Talk

I just returned from attending EXPO East, a giant natural products convention in Baltimore. The first item I tasted was pureed baby food made from boiled, strained vegetables and fruits (but not mixed together) created by a mom (naturally). It was pretty good!  I walked the aisles tasting gut- blasting tonics, fermented juices, root based beverages, mushroom teas and numerous probiotic foods that promised to help clean out my stomach and intestines. I sipped paleo coffee mixed with butter to add “necessary fat” and sampled plenty of reduced fat foods. I nibbled on fiber rich bars and smoothies offering to “help me go.” I tasted foods promising to help boost
