Why Thick Skin Matters at Any Age

Why Thick Skin Matters at Any Age

Thick Skin. Thin Body. Here’s my healthy top for the week: Maintain a thin body and thick skin. The former will help reduce your risk for several major illnesses including cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and stroke, diabetes, back and hip problems and certain cancers (just to name a few examples). The latter will protect you against mental erosion and self- esteem sabotage. Thick skin will protect you against ageism, sexism and all sorts of discrimination you may face in life. It will keep you centered when doors slam in your face and you face a thousand “No’s” before finally hearing “Yes.” It will

Lessons in SHEconomics- Why Supporting Women in Business Matters

In college I studied economics as part of my major, and I hated it! I just couldn’t wrap my head around discussing business calculations using the term “widgets.” I’d tell my professor, “Let’s speak a language I can relate to, like shoes instead of widgets.” In 1989, without having taken a single business course, I launched and ran a very successful public relations agency for over 20 years. I tell people my business education came from Street Smarts and the School of Hard Knocks. You find your niche and do it well and promote like crazy. You do something right; you learn to

Him for the Holidays? Tips on Bringing Your Guy Home

I used to dread going home to Chattanooga for the holidays when I was single. My mother would always invite eligible men to various dinners to meet me.  Most often they were soft, menschy types and this gal liked athletic, preppy boys. Some were interested in meeting other men and not me.  I sighed with frustration hearing comments from family friends like, “Such as shame she hasn’t found a nice man yet.” Note, “she” was usually in the room within earshot. My worst holiday dating experience was when I brought my sophomore college boyfriend home after Christmas. My mother came out

It turns out females are four to six times more likely to injure their knees over men. And we’re not necessarily talking only about older women. Young women athletes are more likely to injure their Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), the most common knee injury.
