While thousands of Americans dashed for the stores as soon as doors opened to take advantage of after-Thanksgiving Black Friday Sales, I made a dash for the out-of-doors to get some fresh air and work off the remains of the feast. I called it “Flab Friday.” My goal was instant and visible reduction in the heaviness and lethargy I felt after drinking so much great wine from our cellar with my vegetarian “sides.”  David is still devouring his turkey- for- one.

My Walk Away Weekend continued with brisk daily walks despite the frigid temperatures and a temporary halt on wine consumption to reset my system. It’s apple cider vinegar water, herbal tea and more water for me for now…and I’ll keep walking – away from tempting sales and toward a healthy holiday season.

Walking is the easiest and least expensive way to keep fit, stay energized and balance your mind. Without the mobile phone in my pocket and earphones playing music, a quiet, non-distracted walk becomes almost meditative to melt stress and clear your head.

Give it a try- Just put one foot in front of the other and take the first steps.
